Project Narrative

Concept
01Concept

Conceived as a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Istanbul yali, Sadoglu Evi embraces the water with a series of terraced living spaces that step down toward the Bosphorus. The design balances openness to the view with the privacy a residence demands.

Design Process
02Design Process

Extensive site visits at different hours mapped how light moves across the Bosphorus throughout the day. The floor plan was arranged so that the main living areas face west to capture the sunset over the water, while bedrooms orient east for gentle morning light.

Execution
03Execution

Local stone and warm timber cladding connect the building to its neighbourhood context, while floor-to-ceiling glass on the water-facing elevation maximises the panoramic experience. A green roof system integrates the house into the Camlica hillside when viewed from above.

04Outcome

Sadoglu Evi achieves the rare balance of feeling both sheltered and expansive — a private retreat that never loses its connection to Istanbul's most defining geographic feature.
