Project Narrative

Stone-clad hillside house with green roof ramp and gated street access
01Concept

Nestled between forest and shore, Riva Evi was designed to disappear into its setting. The low-profile massing follows the natural contour of the land, with a green roof that merges the building into the hillside when viewed from the water.

02Design Process

Site visits during storms informed the design of sheltered outdoor spaces — deep porches and wind-screened terraces that allow the family to enjoy the dramatic coastal weather from comfort. Material selections prioritised weathering resistance in the salt-laden marine environment.

03Execution

Local stone walls ground the building to its site, while large timber-framed windows open to curated views of the Black Sea. The roof structure employs laminated timber beams that span the living areas without intermediate supports.

04Outcome

Riva Evi offers its inhabitants the rarest of luxuries — the sensation of dwelling at the edge of the wilderness while being perfectly sheltered from its forces.
