Project Narrative

Concept
01Concept

The hotel was designed to feel discovered rather than constructed — a series of pavilions nestled into the landscape that draw on vernacular building traditions while meeting international hospitality standards.

Design Process
02Design Process

Climate analysis drove the design of deep overhangs and cross-ventilated corridors that reduce mechanical cooling demand. Local materials were catalogued and tested for durability, with regional stone and sustainably harvested timber forming the primary palette.

Execution
03Execution

Construction engaged local artisans for stone masonry and timber joinery, embedding regional craft knowledge into the building fabric. Guest pavilions are oriented to capture prevailing breezes while framing views of the surrounding landscape.

Outcome
04Outcome

The East African Otel demonstrates that luxury hospitality need not import its identity. By grounding the design in local climate, materials, and craft, the hotel offers an experience that could belong to no other place.
