A family apartment built around a single decisive piece — a monolithic marble island that organises kitchen, living, and dining into one continuous social plan.

Project Narrative

The clients are dual-career parents with three children. The kitchen had to serve as homework station, dinner-party stage, and breakfast counter — sometimes within an hour. We made it the largest single object in the apartment so it could absorb all those roles.

We sized the marble island around four real activities: a homework session for two children, a six-person dinner-party setup, an espresso routine, and a flour-on-the-counter weekend baking session. The slab dimensions came directly from those scenarios.

The island is finished in book-matched Calacatta with mitred edges, sized in millimetres for the precise scenarios above. Pendant lights at three scales hover over its length, marking out homework, dining, and bar zones with light alone.

The family rarely uses the formal dining table. Almost everything happens at the island — and the apartment, despite its modest footprint, never feels small because that single piece does so much work.
