Project Narrative

The renovation of E.S. Evi honours Kızıltoprak's layered history while creating spaces that serve a contemporary family. The concept preserves original architectural details — mouldings, ceiling heights, window proportions — and introduces modern interventions that read as respectful insertions rather than impositions.

Careful survey work documented every original element before renovation began. Where original features were intact, they were preserved and restored; where they had been lost to previous alterations, the design chose not to replicate but instead to leave honest modern finishes that mark the moment of intervention.

New oak flooring was laid in a herringbone pattern that echoes the original without copying it. A contemporary kitchen in matt lacquer and natural stone slides into the existing plan as a freestanding volume, clearly modern yet deferential to the surrounding period architecture.

The renovated home sits comfortably between eras — a space where the patina of Kızıltoprak's past enriches rather than constrains contemporary life. The project demonstrates that preservation and modernity need not be in conflict.
